Job details:

Location: London, ON

Salary: $41.86 hourly for 35 hours per week

Qualification:

– Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required;

– Bachelor’s degree in Food Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,  Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related discipline or equivalent practical experience is required;

– 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a Production or Process Engineer in Indoor Specialty Mushroom cultivation is required;

– Direct knowledge and experience with Specialty Mushroom Production equipment and systems are required;

– Knowledge and practical experience with Japanese Maitake cultivation are required.

 

Job duties:

– Design and modify specialty mushroom cultivation equipment, fixtures, and production systems to improve yield, stability, and efficiency;

– Plan and optimize facility layout, material flow, and process flow to enhance safety and production capacity;

– Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all key processes, including spawn handling, substrate preparation, incubation, fruiting, harvesting, and post-harvest processing;

– Analyze production data, conduct motion and yield-loss studies, and identify root causes of inefficiency to propose cost-saving improvements;

– Lead preventive maintenance programs, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and environmental control systems, and coordinate with external vendors as needed;

– Implement and maintain food-safety and quality systems (GMP, HACCP, etc.) to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer standards;

– Integrate automation and process-control technologies (sensors, PLC, SCADA) to stabilize environmental conditions and reduce human variability;

– Collaborate with procurement, R&D, and suppliers to evaluate and select new machinery, materials, and process components for cost-effective scale-up;

– Train and mentor production staff in equipment operation, process control, safety procedures, and continuous improvement methods (Lean, 5S, Kaizen);

– Lead projects to improve productivity, reduce material and energy consumption, and enhance safety and ergonomics in the workplace;

– Prepare technical reports, capital project proposals, cost-benefit analyses, and other documentation for management and cross-functional teams.
